VLC 4.0 to bring new user interface and a lots of features.

VLC to improve the user interface and bring new features in its new version 4.0. Also dropping support for some older platforms.





Recently, VLC celebrated 3 billion downloads. At the FOSDEM developer event, Jean-Baptiste Kempf, leader of VLC development, details regarding the next major update for the VLC media player version 4.0.

The most notable update is new UI design for platforms such as Windows 10, KDE plasma 5 and others, VLC has dropped the old interface, brought new UI and structured media library on PC like VLC for Android and iOS. Currently, you have to open media from the file menu, in the newer version VLC will have its media library which will show thumbnails of media files on screen.



VLC 4.0 will have an improved input manager, a music player which will allow music lovers to enjoy gapless music. As per the new UI player will have the flatter icons, as well as the transparent and blurry effect on many elements. Kempf has said that the team also worked of player's clock which will provide better synchronization between audio and video, and reduction in frame dropping.


In the new version, we will see the added support for VR and 3D films.

VLC to also end support for older platforms with version 4.0. 
On Windows, VLC 4.0 will no longer be available for XP and Vista, while the user will need to be at least on macOS 10.11. On other hands, Linux user will need OpenGL support to use VLC.

For mobile, Android 4.2 or older will not be supported. As for iOS, VLC will end support for iOS 7 and 8.
