Google to give Gmail app a new look like Gmail web with some new features.

Gmail mobile app has started receiving a new look based on Google's material theme. But, no dark theme yet.

Google is rolling out a new look for Gmail app for mobile. Gmail app will receive the updates in the coming few weeks for both Android and iOS. Last year in April, Gmail received a new design for the web. The same user interface is coming for Gmail mobile app soon.

The new design is based on Google's Material Theme. Currently, the app has mostly red and white interface at home screen, after the update, it will have more white spaces with colorful tool icons. The red color compose button has been replaced with a colorful plus icon.

But, there is no dark theme. Android Messages app received the dark theme but Gmail is not yet. With this, the app will also receive some new features:
  • Previously you had to use sidebars to switch between your accounts but now, you can switch using your profile picture at the top of the app.
  • You can preview the attachments with e-mail. In other words, you can view attachments like photos without opening the conversation.
Attachment Previews on Gmail Web.

  • You will get red warnings, to alert you when something looks phish-y.
Google has already updated interfaces of Gmail, Drive, Calendar, most recent Google Docs, and Sites for the web with its Material Theme.
