Google is all set to shut down its social media platform Google+. Data deletion process starts from April 2, 2019.

Tech giant Google is all set to shut down its Social Media platform Google+ after the data breach case due to a big bug in Google's system.


As we all know, 2018 was not a good year for Social Media giants. Google has made the announcement of closing Google+. Moving ahead in this sequence on Wednesday, Google announced that they are shutting down Google+ for consumer (personal) accounts on April 2, 2019. According to the announcement, Google is shutting Google+ due to low usage and challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumer's expectations.

Google told about the process of shutdown, some important actions that will take place are:
  • No one will be able to create a new Google+ profile, page, community or event from 4th February.
  • Google+ for comments, This feature will be removed from blogger and other sites by 4th February and 7th February respectively.
  • Google+ sign-in buttons for sites and apps will stop working in the coming weeks but in some cases may be replaced by Google sign-in buttons.
  • On 2 April Google will start deleting consumer's data including photos, videos and pages.
The decision will impact the developer. Google+ for G suite accounts will remain active, new look and features can be expected from Google. While the users can download and save their content before April. Photos and videos backed up in the Google Photos will not be deleted. Overall the process will take a few months.

Google has thanked all the artists, community builders and thought leaders who made Google+ their home.
